The 2019 Hellroaring Open it a PDGA C-Tier event located at the Smith Lake Community Disc Golf Course. The 27 hole Smith Lake Course is a challenging course with trees and elevation changes.
Some notes on the event. The State of Montana also requests all players have a State Land Use permit that costs $10. There is a link at the bottom of this page on how to buy one. The land the course is on is Montana State Trust Lands. The money from the permits directly goes to Montana schools.
2019 will be the first year of the event. We have purchased Prodigy Tee-Pads (turf) but are uncertain as to when they will arrive. We hope to get a few if not all in the ground. Otherwise the course features 5′ x 12′ dirt tee pads that are in pretty good shape.
The course is long and this will be a 2 day event. Day 1 will be shotgun start planned for 11 AM and day 2 will feature tee-times starting as early as 9:30 AM.
The course is located on the north west end of Whitefish. Registration and Check-In on Friday will be at Bonsai Brewing Project on Wisconsin Ave from 3 PM to 8 PM. Anyone heading to the course must to drive by Bonsai Brewing Project to get there.
On Saturday after the round we’ll be having a party and putting contest at The Montana Tap House also on Wisconsin Ave. They feature 58 micro brews on tap and house made pizza.
The average high is 59 and average low is 32 for this time of the year. Usually it is dry with fog in the mornings and sunshine in the afternoons. It is Montana and in the mountains, rain is possible and snow very unlikely.
We will be updating soon with lodging options. Camping is an option in the area as well.
