The 2019 Hellroaring Open it a PDGA C-Tier event located at the Smith Lake Community Disc Golf Course. The 27 hole Smith Lake Course is a challenging course with trees and elevation changes.
Some notes on the event. The land this course is on is not free and there will be a $5 fee added to all players to help fund the course. We want to be very up front about this. We need to raise a minimum of $2000 a year and this tournament is a way to help us reach our goal. The State of Montana also requests all players have a State Land Use permit that costs $10. There is a link at the bottom of this page on how to buy one. The permit is good for all activities on Montana State Trust Land such as biking, camping, fishing, etc….
2019 will be the first year of the event. We are doing everything possible to get turf tee-pads in by the event and the terrain is a bit rugged. It’s a bit rough ad rugged in the first year. We just want to give fair warning so no wimps and whiners show up. Bring your A-game and tame the demons rising at Smith Lake.
The course is long and this will be a 2 day event. Day 1 will be shotgun start planned for 11 AM and day 2 will be a shotgun start at 9:30 AM.
The course is located on the north west end of Whitefish. Registration and Check-In on Friday will be at Bonsai Brewing Project on Wisconsin Ave from 3 PM to 8 PM. Anyone heading to the course has to drive by Bonsai Brewing Project to get there.
On Saturday after the round we’ll be having a party and putting contest at The Montana Tap House also on Wisconsin Ave. They feature 58 micro brews on tap and house made pizza.
The average high is 59 and average low is 32 for this time of the year. Usually it is dry with fog in the mornings and sunshine in the afternoons. It is Montana and in the mountains, rain is possible and snow very unlikely.
We will be updating soon with lodging options. Camping is an option in the area as well.
